TVS Motors announced that the Qube Hybrid automatic scooter would be test launched by the middle of that year. While the hybrid scooter’s launch has definitely been delayed, the silver lining is that TVS Motors is still positive about the Qube hybrid scooter, which promises to be India’s first hybrid scooter to hit Indian streets.
The electric motor that sits inside the wheel hub of the Qube uses lithium ion batteries. The hybrid scooter is capable of running in all electric, hybrid economy and hybrid power modes. With petrol prices climbing towards the stratosphere, the Qube Hybrid scooter represents the direction which the Indian two wheeler industry could take with more and more manufacturers joining the hybrid brigade. The Qube Hybrid will be packed with technology like brake energy regeneration and a start-stop system as standard.
Initially, 200 Qube Hybrid scooters will be test launched across India with TVS Motors noting down the real time feedback to refine the product further. After making changes on the production variant, TVS plans to launch the Qube Hybrid commercially within a few months of the test launch. The TVS Qube hybrid automatic scooter is powered by a 100cc four stroke engine and an electric motor.
These technologies will work in tandem with the electric motor and four stroke engine of the Qube, to boost fuel economy. TVS Motors claims a fuel economy figure of 70 Kmpl for the Qube Hybrid. TVS Motors plans to take advantage of the subsidy that the Indian government is conferring upon Indian hybrid vehicle makers through the National Electric Mobility Mission 2020. The coming budget is another big ticket event that the Hosur headquartered two wheeler major is looking at as the 2013 Union Budget could announce more sops for hybrid vehicle makers in India.
